How a private tour works
A private tour means the vehicle and driver are booked for your party alone, with no fixed departure date and no other travellers on board. Best Morocco Travel, a family company in Marrakech that has run tours for 25 years, plans and operates every trip.
- You enquire by form, email or WhatsApp with your dates, group size and the places you want to see.
- We reply with a route and an exact price for your group and hotel level.
- You adjust it. Add a night, drop a stop, change the end city to match your flight.
- You agree the itinerary. Nothing is paid before that point.
- Your driver meets you at the airport or your accommodation and stays with you for the whole trip.
Included on multi-day tours
- Private air-conditioned vehicle
- English- or Spanish-speaking driver
- Airport and accommodation pickup and drop-off
- Accommodation each night at standard, comfort or luxury level
- Breakfast every day. Dinner every night on 3 to 5 day tours, and some dinners on tours of 6 days or more, listed in your quote
- Camel ride in the Sahara on desert routes
Not included
- Lunches and drinks
- Entrance fees to monuments
- Tips
- Flights
On the longer tours a local city guide leads the guided days in Fes and Marrakech. If you are weighing this against a shared minibus, see private vs group tours.
What does a typical day on a private tour look like?
A travel day is breakfast at your accommodation, a morning on the road with several stops, lunch somewhere along the route, and arrival in the late afternoon. Because the vehicle is yours, the times are agreed with your driver the evening before and can move.
- Morning. Breakfast where you slept, then the bags go in the vehicle. Most days start between about 8 and 9, earlier on the longest stages.
- On the road. Stops come every hour or two: a viewpoint on a mountain pass, a kasbah, a gorge, a village market. You can ask for more stops or fewer.
- Lunch. Your driver suggests a restaurant on the route. Lunch is not in the price, so you choose where and how much.
- Afternoon. One or two longer visits, such as the ksar of Ait Ben Haddou or a walk in Todra Gorge, then the last stretch of driving.
- Evening. Check in, rest, and dinner. On 3 to 5 day tours dinner is included every night. On longer tours your quote lists which dinners are included.
City days are different. In Fes and Marrakech on the longer tours, a local guide walks you through the medina and the vehicle is only used to reach the gates and the sights outside the walls. Free days, such as the one in Chefchaouen on tours of 11 days or more, have nothing scheduled at all.

What are the vehicles and drivers like?
You travel in a private air-conditioned vehicle sized to your group, with one driver who stays with you from pickup to drop-off. A couple and a family of six will not be sent the same vehicle, which is one reason the price per person changes with group size.
- Language. Drivers speak English or Spanish. Tell us which you need when you enquire.
- What the driver does. Drives, handles the luggage, explains what you are passing, and knows where to stop for photographs, coffee and clean toilets.
- What the driver does not do. A driver is not a city guide. Inside the medinas of Fes and Marrakech a local guide takes over on the guided days.
- Luggage. Bags stay in the vehicle during the day. At Merzouga the main bags are left behind and you take a small overnight bag to the camp.
- Special requests. If you need a child seat, extra legroom or a particular type of vehicle, say so in your enquiry so it is priced into the quote.
What do standard, comfort and luxury mean?
They are the three accommodation levels every quote can be priced at. The route, the vehicle and the driver are the same at each one. What changes is where you sleep, and that is the second biggest influence on price after group size.
| Level | In the cities | In the desert | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | A simple riad or hotel | A basic camp, where bathrooms may be shared | Travellers who want the route at the lowest price in the range |
| Comfort | A mid-range riad or hotel | A step up from the basic camp. Ask what the tent includes | Most first-time visitors |
| Luxury | A luxury riad or hotel | A larger tent with proper beds and a private bathroom | Honeymoons, special occasions and anyone who sleeps badly in simple rooms |
Properties depend on your dates, so they are named in your quote and not on this page. Look each one up before you agree. More detail is on the luxury Morocco tours page.
You can mix levels. A common choice is comfort in the cities with a luxury camp in the desert, because a private bathroom matters most in the dunes. In rural stops such as the Dades Valley the choice is narrower at every level, since the places to stay are small.
What Morocco tour packages cost
Prices run from €500 per person for 3 days to €7,800 per person for 17 days, and they are the same all year. Where you land in each range depends on group size, hotel and camp level, and anything you add.
| Tour length | From | To | Per day | Published itineraries |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days | €500 | €800 | €167 to €267 | Marrakech to Fes, Marrakech round trip |
| 4 days | €600 | €900 | €150 to €225 | Fes to Marrakech, Marrakech round trip |
| 5 days | €700 | €1,000 | €140 to €200 | Marrakech round trip |
| 6 days | €1,300 | €3,270 | €217 to €545 | Marrakech round trip |
| 7 days | €1,700 | €3,800 | €243 to €543 | Marrakech round trip |
| 8 days | €2,200 | €4,500 | €275 to €563 | Casablanca to Marrakech |
| 9 days | €2,700 | €4,900 | €300 to €544 | Casablanca to Marrakech |
| 10 days | €2,900 | €5,500 | €290 to €550 | Casablanca to Marrakech |
| 11 days | €3,200 | €5,700 | €291 to €518 | Casablanca to Marrakech |
| 12 days | €3,400 | €6,100 | €283 to €508 | Casablanca to Marrakech |
| 13 days | €3,500 | €6,400 | €269 to €492 | Casablanca round trip |
| 14 days | €3,700 | €6,700 | €264 to €479 | Casablanca round trip |
| 15 days | €3,900 | €7,100 | €260 to €473 | Casablanca round trip |
| 16 days | €4,300 | €7,500 | €269 to €469 | Casablanca round trip |
| 17 days | €4,600 | €7,800 | €271 to €459 | Casablanca round trip |
Prices are per person for a private tour. Every trip is tailored, so the final price depends on your group size, hotel and camp level, and what you add.
The step up between 5 and 6 days is real. Short tours are desert routes with one or two hotel nights and a camp. From 6 days the trip adds city stays, guided city days and more hotel nights. The full breakdown is on the Morocco tour cost page.
How many days do you need?
Three days is the minimum for the Sahara, six or seven covers Marrakech and the desert at a fair pace, and eight to twelve days takes in the north as well. From 13 days the route becomes a full circle with the Atlantic coast. Use the table to match your dates to a route.
| Days available | What fits | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | The High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou, Dades and Todra gorges and one camp night at Merzouga. Long drives every day. | 3 days Marrakech to Merzouga or 3 days Marrakech to Fes |
| 4 | The same desert road with a full day at the dunes, or with the drive home split by a night in Ouarzazate. | 4 days Fes to Marrakech or 4 days Marrakech to Merzouga |
| 5 | Two nights at Erg Chebbi, a short first day and a different road in each direction. | 5 days Marrakech to Merzouga |
| 6 | A guided walk in Marrakech on arrival, a four-day desert loop with one camp night, and a last night in the city. | 6 days from Marrakech |
| 7 | Marrakech with a full guided day, then the southern loop with two nights at Merzouga. | 7 days from Marrakech |
| 8 to 9 | Casablanca, Rabat, Chefchaouen, a guided day in Fes, one desert night and Marrakech. Nine days adds a guided day in Marrakech. | 8 days or 9 days from Casablanca |
| 10 | The same north to south line with a night in Rabat, two nights at Merzouga and guided days in both Fes and Marrakech. | 10 days from Casablanca |
| 11 to 12 | A free day in Chefchaouen. Twelve days adds a day in the Ourika Valley from Marrakech. | 11 days or 12 days from Casablanca |
| 13 to 14 | A full circle back to Casablanca by Essaouira. Thirteen days has one desert night, fourteen has two. | 13 days or 14 days from Casablanca |
| 15 to 17 | A free day in Essaouira, then a night in Tangier from 16 days, then a night in Midelt at 17 days to split the drive from Fes to the desert. | 15 days, 16 days or 17 days from Casablanca |
Best Morocco Travel also runs tours starting in Fes and Tangier and one-way routes not listed here. Ask us for any route you do not see.
How does customising a tour work?
You pick the published tour closest to what you want and tell us what to change. Hassan and his team in Marrakech rework the route and send a new price. Three examples show the kind of change that is routine.
- Reverse a one-way route. The 4-day Fes to Marrakech tour can be run from Marrakech to Fes instead. You keep the full day at Merzouga and finish in the north, which suits a flight home from Fes.
- Swap a repeated stop. On the 4-day Marrakech to Merzouga loop the road passes Ait Ben Haddou on day one and again on day four. If once is enough, the second visit can become more time in Ouarzazate.
- Add or move a night. The 13-day tour gives Essaouira one night. A second night there can be added. On the 12-day tour, the second desert night can be moved from the camp to a hotel beside the dunes if two nights in a tent is one too many.
Other common requests are a different start or end city, a higher or lower hotel level, a day trip from Marrakech before or after the tour, and extras such as quad bikes at the dunes. What cannot be changed is distance. Removing a night usually means a longer day in the vehicle, and we will say so in the reply.
Who does a private tour suit, and who does it not?
A private tour suits people who value control over the day more than the lowest price. It is a poor fit for a solo traveller on a tight budget or for anyone who wants a group to travel with.
A good fit if
- You are two or more people, so the vehicle cost is shared
- You want to set the start time, the stops and the hotel level
- You are travelling with children or older relatives and need a pace of your own
- You have fixed flights and need the route to start and end in particular cities
- You would rather not drive Moroccan mountain roads yourself
Think twice if
- You are travelling alone and price matters most. One person pays for the whole vehicle
- You enjoy meeting other travellers on the road. There is no group
- You want to stay several days in one place. A riad and a few day trips will serve you better than a tour
- You dislike car travel. Every route to the Sahara has days of 250 km or more
Which city should you start from?
Start where your flight lands. A one-way route that ends in a different city usually saves a full day of driving back.
| Start city | Suits | Typical route | Published tours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marrakech | Short desert trips and a week in the south | Over the Tizi n'Tichka pass to Ait Ben Haddou, the Dades Valley and Merzouga | 3 days, 3 days to Fes, 4 days, 5 days, 6 days, 7 days |
| Casablanca, ending in Marrakech | Long-haul arrivals with 8 to 12 days | Rabat, Chefchaouen, Fes, the desert, then Marrakech | 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 days |
| Casablanca, returning to Casablanca | A return flight from the same airport and 13 days or more | The route above, then the Ourika Valley, Essaouira and the coast road north | 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 days |
| Fes | The shortest road to the Sahara | Ifrane, the cedar forest and the Ziz Valley to Merzouga, then on to Marrakech | 4 days Fes to Marrakech |
| Tangier | Arrivals from Spain | Chefchaouen and Fes before the desert | Ask us for these routes |
The 8 to 12 day tours end in Marrakech, with the departure transfer to Marrakech or Casablanca airport.
Can you travel with children or older travellers?
Yes, and a private tour is the easier way to do it, because the pace is yours. The honest limit is the driving. No plan removes the distance to the desert, so the answer is usually more days, not a different route.
- Choose a longer version of the same route. Five days to Merzouga is kinder than three. The 17-day tour is the only published route where no day on the road passes about 380 km.
- Ask for more stops. Mountain roads such as the Tizi n'Tichka have many bends. Short breaks help anyone prone to carsickness.
- Think about the camp. A tent with a private bathroom makes the desert night simpler for young children and for anyone who gets up in the night.
- Skip the camel if you need to. The ride is included but not compulsory. Most camps can also be reached by 4x4.
- Check the walking. Medinas are on foot, with uneven paving and steps. Tell us about any mobility limits so the guided days can be shortened.
- Avoid midsummer for the desert. Afternoons at Merzouga often pass 40°C in July and August. See the best time to visit Morocco.
Hassan and his team in Marrakech also plan family and seniors tours as private trips. We cannot give medical advice, so if a health condition affects long car days, heat or altitude, check with your doctor before you book.
Questions people ask
Are all your Morocco tours private?
Yes. Every tour uses a private air-conditioned vehicle and driver for your party only. There are no shared buses and you do not join other travellers.
Can I change a tour itinerary?
Yes. Start and end city, pace, hotel level and extra days can all be changed before you agree the itinerary. You can also send a route you have drafted yourself.
What is the best length for a first trip to Morocco?
Seven to ten days suits most first visits. Seven covers Marrakech and the Sahara, and ten adds Fes, Chefchaouen and Rabat. See our Morocco itinerary outlines.
Do tour prices change by season?
No. The published ranges apply all year. Spring and autumn are the busiest months, so riads and camps at each level fill earlier then.
Is a guide included on the tours?
Your driver speaks English or Spanish and travels with you throughout. Longer tours also include a local city guide on the guided days in Fes and Marrakech.
How far ahead should I book a Morocco tour?
There is no fixed deadline, but spring, autumn and New Year are the busiest periods, and the better riads and camps at each level fill first. Enquiring early gives you more choice at the same price.
Who runs the tours on the ground?
Best Morocco Travel, a family company based in Marrakech and led by Hassan. Read more on our about page and see what travellers say on the reviews page.
