How to read tour reviews critically
- Read the lowest ratings first. They show what goes wrong and how the company replied.
- Look for your kind of trip. A review of a 3-day desert tour says little about a 14-day tour with city guides.
- Check the dates. Drivers, hotels and camps change. Recent reviews count for more.
- Prefer detail to praise. Names of drivers, places and problems solved are harder to invent than "amazing trip".
- Look at the reviewer. Someone with many reviews across different places is a stronger signal than a single-review account.
What reviews cannot tell you
A rating does not tell you whether a route suits you. Long drives, summer heat in the Sahara and basic hotels in small valleys are part of the country, not a fault of the operator. Each tour page has a "think twice" section that lists the drawbacks of that route.
